COLORADO SPRINGS

Colorado Springs

A city resting at the eastern side of the Rocky Mountains with gorgeous views of Pikes Peak, as well as being home to Garden of the Gods and the famous Broadmoor Hotel.

Also, this is where Joe and I call home!

  • My advice: visit in June-July, September-October, or December. Those are the prettiest months!

    Spring:
Not much of a spring. Between March and May, you’ll have snow days followed by mid-60’s, and that repeats itself until about Mother’s Day. The flowers and leave start to grow beginning in May when the weather is consistently in the 60’s-70’s.

    Summer:
Very warm weather with wildflower fields. The days can average 90 degrees with lows in the 60’s. This is also wildflower season, so be sure to make a summer visit. Afternoon thunderstorms are common and nearly daily, so plan all hikes early in the morning.

    Fall:
My favorite time of year here with all the vibrant fall colors. Visit the first week in October to see Garden of the Gods in gorgeous shades of orange and gold. Temperatures will be in the 50’s on average, but some days might be in the 70’s or maybe it will snow. It’s an unpredictable season.

    Winter:
Very sunny season, with only a handful of snow days. Expect mild winter temperatures with the occasional single-digit day or two. Due to elevation and the dry climate, it typically feels warmer than it actually is.

  • Colorado Springs Airport (COS): On the eastern side of the city, approximately 20 minutes from downtown Colorado Springs. This is the best way to get to Colorado Springs.

    Denver Airport (DEN):
Approx. 1 hour and 15 minute drive from the airport to downtown Colorado Springs.

Colorado takes excellent care of the highways, and a road-trip from anywhere is accessible. Highways through the mountains are also maintained well, just be sure to check weather conditions (snow) or if there is a wildfire or rockslide in the region you are traveling.

  • Colorado Springs is approximately 6,032 feet. Different parts of city are higher than others (our home is 6,432 feet!) but regardless, it’s much higher than sea level.

When traveling here, drive more water than you think you need. Take your time while hiking or exerting yourself, and take a moment to catch your breath while looking at the scenery.

    Wear sunscreen.

Drinking one glass of an alcoholic beverage is approximately 2-3 drinks at sea level.

Garden of the Gods is a must-see when you are in Colorado Springs. Go early or later in the evening to avoid the crowds.

It’s hard to narrow down a good food scene, but these are some of our favorites. All of these restaurants are either locally owned, allergy-friendly, or worth the splurge.
