    TUSCANY

Take a tour of a local winery, learn about the art of winemaking, and sample some of the best wine in the world. Tuscany is known for its rolling hills, picturesque vineyards, and charming villages, and you'll have the opportunity to take in the stunning views as you travel through the region. Whether you're a wine enthusiast or just looking for a unique and relaxing day trip, a visit to a Tuscany winery is sure to be a highlight of your vacation.

For our cruise, we chose excursions for each day. In Rome, we did an ‘on your own’ walking tour, which gave us secure transportation from the cruise and back, but the freedom to explore Rome on our own. In Naples, we did a full-day Pompeii and Almalfi coast boat tour excursion. In Tuscany, we did a winery tour.

In Rome, you can explore the ancient ruins of the Roman Empire and see iconic landmarks like the Colosseum and the Pantheon. After walking to the Spanish steps and ordering fresh gluten-free pasta (I cried with joy) we walked to the Vatican and marveled at the grandness of it all.

In Pompeii, it’s like stepping back into history to see what life was like during the height of the Roman Empire, and the tragedy that is preserved after Mount Vesuvius erupted. Shannon has toured Pompeii twice and still recommends it to anyone who visits. Then, we boarded a boat and sailed along the Almalfi coast to soak in the sun and views.

We aren’t always interested in history-related excursions. When I thought of Tuscany, I imagined sipping on a glass of velvety red wine while taking in the stunning views of the rolling hills and vineyards. We booked an excursion to a winery in Lucca, and it was the ultimate way to relax and unwind. Also, the winery was super generous in its wine tasting, because they literally gave us multiple bottles to sample, and then we could pick which ones we wanted to drink. It was amazing.
