COLORADO

  • WEATHER

    Fact:
Colorado (specifically Denver and Colorado Springs) have an average of 300 days of sunshine a year.

Spring: Doesn’t really exist. It’s a mixture of cold and warm days, snow storms one day and 70 degrees the next. The leaves grow back on the trees in late April/early May on the front range, and even later in the mountains. The higher up in elevation, the later the “Spring” starts.

Summer: Warm air, wildflowers and afternoon thunderstorms. Mountain regions might have cooler nights.

Fall: Mid-September through Mid-October. Higher elevations have fall colors first, and it continues to the front range in the middle of October. Plan for cold nights, though the days could be warm or cold. Usually sunny.

Winter: Typically cold and windy, with lots of sunshine. Excellent skiing in the Rocky Mountains.

  • ELEVATION

Be mindful of elevation. The biggest airport is Denver International Airport, and it is roughly 5,000 feet. Colorado Springs airport is growing, and is over 6,000 feet in elevation. Popular destinations like Breckenridge are at 10,000 feet.

    Tips:
+ Hydrate twice as much as normal.
+ Don’t push yourself physically if you aren’t use to it - you’ll get winded faster.
+ One alcoholic drink at sea-level is approximately 3 drinks at these elevations.
+ If you are going up in the mountains, the weather gets cold. Estimate approximately a 5* temperature drop roughly every thousand feet in elevation gained.
